Week 14: The Public History Internship Experience
Prior to joining the Public History Central team in the summer, networking and developing the necessary skills for the field were challenging without proper support. Staying under the umbrella of the Public History Central internship, working with the other teams has proven beneficial and enjoyable, as I have collaborated with my fellow teammates and gained a deeper insight into the work they’ve accomplished this semester. Earlier in the digitization process, I worked with Mi

Week 13: Task Wrap Up
This week has been mainly dedicated to wrapping up any last-minute tasks for the semester. I split my time by attempting to chip away at more of the DeBary spreadsheet, as there was too much to complete within one semester, and many cells had to start from scratch. I truly wish there was more time in the day to accomplish a few more cells, but some categories require more time to gather content than others. Undoubtedly, one of the most time-consuming aspects of this process w

Week 12: Leadership Tasks
November is here, and the finish line is starting to come into view. This comes with its own mix of feelings as we need to start wrapping up tasks and preparing our presentations for the internship showcase. Although my intern had the option not to participate, as she was doing this work voluntarily, she decided to join me regardless, for the experience and public speaking practice. Some of the most demanding leadership skills are going to start coming into play for the next

Week 11: Best Practice
While working on the corrections for the spreadsheets, I often use different color codes. As I continue to work through the DeBary spreadsheet, I use green to highlight all the double- and even triple-checked correct cells, keeping everything organized and ensuring that nothing is overlooked. Over time, I’ve tried out a few different color-coding methods, but this one has been the most helpful in identifying what I still need to complete easily. Small snapshot of color-coded

Week 10: Florida Historical Society
This week, I’m going to have a slight change of pace from my regular weekly tasks. While I’m still learning and editing my way through the DeBary spreadsheet, I’ve told much of this before, and I’m taking my time to improve my digital archiving skills. Sarah Boye's definition of "Mousekeeping" Another part of this internship is that I often have the opportunity to explore the professionalization of history; this time, I witnessed it through the research presentations of other

Week 9: Asking the 5W’s of DeBary
I consider much of this process new to me, so the best approach is to experiment with different strategies to find the most effective way to work with the information that’s already given. While still working on the DeBary spreadsheet, I’ve laid a lot of groundwork when it comes to fixing up some of the formatting, like dates and subject headings. I firmly believe that the best practice is to work on keywords simultaneously, as they go hand in hand; it’s hard to do one withou
